As Apple announced their refreshing new iOS 7 operating system, the company also announced the immediate availability of iOS 7 Beta for iPhone 4 (and higher). Here are the first impressions.

iOS 7 Beta 1 release

Apple has released iOS 7 Beta for the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5 with immediate availability. If you have any of the listed devices, you can download and install the Beta version of iOS 7 on your phone right away. iPad and iPad Mini users will have to wait as Apple seems to be taking wee bit longer porting the new UI and all the changes to larger screens. That being said, Apple announced that the iPads should get the iOS 7 Beta release very soon, so no real worries here.

Oh, just one last thing. To download the iOS 7 Beta 1, you need to be a registered Apple developer (and that costs $99). If this isn’t absolutely necessary for you, simply wait for the final release (within the next few months).

iOS 7 Beta 1 features

As always, not all features from the new iOS 7 will make it to older Apple devices (sad). Thankfully, we won’t be left guessing as Apple has released a list of features that will be (and won’t be) available on your iDevices with iOS 7.

  1. Panorama format is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPod touch (5th generation). Square and video formats and swipe to capture are available on iPhone 4 or later, iPad (3rd generation or later), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation).

  2. Filters in Camera are available on iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation). Filters in Photos are available on iPhone 4 or later, iPad (3rd generation or later), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation).

  3. AirDrop is available on iPhone 5, iPad (4th generation), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires an iCloud account.

  4. Siri is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply. New female and male voices will be available initially in U.S. English, French, and German.
