When iOS 7 was first unveiled last year, Apple showed off a new feature called iOS in the Car. CEO Tim Cook has said that this feature is an important part of Apple’s ecosystem as well as a “key focus” for the company. While a few screenshots are present on the official iOS 7 website, it is believed that this feature has evolved quite a lot since then. This would explain the differences between the newly leaked images and those currently being used in marketing materials by Apple. Well known iOS developer Steven Troughton-Smith posted these images on his Twitter account without any explanation or comment whatsoever, so its unclear where he has obtained the images from.

Though its highly likely that they might have been extracted from iOS 7.1 beta 4, the latest beta of the upcoming major iOS 7 update was seeded to developers just two days ago. The images show a major function of iOS in the Car, the iOS 7 like Maps interface with support for 3D mapping and even a warning screen that’s normally found in conventional GPS devices. This feature basically offers enhanced integration of iOS 7 with automobiles, extending an iOS style interface to a car’s touchscreen in-dash display from where users can make phone calls, read messages, control media and use Apple Maps.

Car manufacturers like Honda, Acura, BMW, Audio and more have already expressed their interest in supporting iOS in the Car in many of their 2014 models. So far Apple has not revealed when this feature would be rolled out, its possible that it might come bundled with iOS 7.1. It is not known for sure right now when iOS 7.1 is going to be publicly released.
