Is Google making an app that would identify people's faces?

Reported by on Friday, April 1 2011 8:27 pm

Today's news story comes from CNN, which released a story claiming that Google is developing an application able to identify people's faces. It is only natural that Google...

...has the technical capability to perform such a feat but most people remain sceptical and rightfully fear for their privacy.

CNN reports that "Google is working on a mobile application that would allow users to snap pictures of people's faces in order to access their personal information, a director for the project said this week." and of course Google claims that "We recognize that Google has to be extra careful when it comes to these [privacy] issues. Face recognition we will bring out once we have acceptable privacy models in place."

We fear to think what kind of new "trend" Google's "Faces App" might become; people taking pictures of your face at any random encounter and then "Googling" for your personal data (which include your e-mail and phone number) could prove to be dangerous, especially for younger people and females.
