IT SHOW 2006 returns as the largest exhibition ever held in Singapore, by
occupying three full levels of the Suntec City Exhibition Centre, taking 7
halls and more than 270,000 square feet of space. There are more than 750
leading manufacturers and suppliers showing their products all under the same
roof. The exhibition is being held from the 9th of March to the 12th of March at
level 3, level 4 in halls 401 to 404 and level 6 in halls 601 to 603. Show
opening hours are from 12pm to 9pm daily and admission is free of charge. A lucky draw is also held, with cash prizes up to $ 10,000 (in Singapore
dollars).

It is expected that the crowd will be larger in numbers this year because of
the vast amounts of products being showcased. Therefore, it is advisable to take
public transport to the show during the weekend as traffic at the Suntec area would probably be very very congested this time round.

Since the offers are almost endless, we have decided to pick out a
few that we believe may be of interest to everyone.

Upon entering the exhibition at level 4, we are greeted by Acer’s booth
(8135).

Two of their newest products are the TravelMate 3282WXMi and the Aspire
5562WXMi. The booth was crowded, with many people trying to get their hands on
these laptops. (We could not even get a ‘clean’ shot of the laptops!)

Both laptops sport the newest Intel Core Duo T2300 processor, with the latter
having a better 14.1″ WXGA TFT LCD (Acer CrystalBrite), an integrated 1.3 megapixel CMOS
camera and 1GB DDR-II memory. Both laptops are going for $ 2298 and $ 2598
respectively. What’s more, Acer is offering a couple of free packages where buyers can choose the one they prefer. One of the packages is an additional 2nd and 3rd year
local carry-in extended warranty which we believe is the best deal.

Next up at Asus’ booth (8130), are more laptops with the Centrino Duo mobile
technology.

asus a6j IT SHOW 2006

The A6J uses an Intel Core Duo T2300 processor and comes with an ATi MOBILITY
RADEON X1600 with 256MB memory. The LCD panel is a 15.4″ WXGA, with ColorShine
and Crystalshine technologies. Bluetooth 2.0 and a 1.3 megapixel camera are
standard equipment on the A6J. Price for this unit is at $ 2798.

We have the A7J here, which is a desktop-replacement model. It has a T2400
processor, X1600 graphics, but a huge 17.1″ WXGA screen. This laptop even comes
with an analog TV tuner and remote control unit! However, the price is pretty
steep at $ 3398.

asus w5f IT SHOW 2006

Finally, the W5F is targeted at users looking for both mobility and
performance. Beneath its all-white exterior lies a Core Duo T2300 processor and
the unit even comes with 1GB DDR-II memory. The screen is only a 12.1″ WXGA
though. Interestingly, this laptop still has a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera.
Potential buyers would be glad to know that the W5F tips the scale at only
1.6kg. However, the trade-off is that you will have to spend more on this
laptop: $ 2998. All Asus laptops are backed by a 2-year global limited
warranty for both parts and labour.
