Over here at Samsung’s booth (8328), they are showcasing a really wide range
of LCD and plasma TV sets.

(PS42D5).

samsung 173p IT SHOW 2006

This is a pretty old 17″ LCD model. However, it is a F.A. Porsche designed
one, and it’s price of $ 559 is still rather reasonable. Analog and DVI inputs
are available on the 173P.

Samsung has also joined the rest of the notebook manufacturers with their new
X60-C002 laptop utilising the Core Duo T2300 processor priced at $ 2499. It is
using the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 integrated graphics. Only 512MB
DDR-II memory is provided, and it is a single stick. Do note that Intel laptops
on the Intel 915PM/GM and 945PM/GM chipsets do support dual channel technology.
It is recommended that you run memories in pairs to maximize memory bandwidth
and get the best possible performance out of your laptop in these cases.

Many of their MP3 players are also on display. We took a look at two of their
latest offerings.

samsung ypz5 IT SHOW 2006

This is the YP-Z5, once touted as the ‘iPod Nano killer’. It can last for 20
hours of continous audio playback and supports JPEG display of images and OGG/MP3/WMA/WAV/ASF
(audio) audio formats. The 2GB version is at $ 349 and the 4GB version is at
$ 439. This player uses flash-based memory, so there is no worry of hard disk
crashes due to accidents. A pair of speakers is given free, together with a pair
of quality Sennheiser headphones too.

2 megapixel digital camera, video playback, picture display and audio player
all packed into one – presenting the YP-D1. Same set of freebies as the YP-Z5 is
given for this player. As there are more functions in this player-cum-camera,
the pricing is $ 299, $ 399 and $ 499 for the 512MB, 1GB and 2GB models
respectively.

Dell (8438) is also present at the IT SHOW. They have introduced two new
laptops, namely the Inspiron 6400 and the Inspiron 9400.

dell i6400 IT SHOW 2006

The Inspiron 6400 is probably going to be the killer this show. Armed with an
Intel Core Duo T2300 processor, a 15.4″ WXGA TFT LCD, 512MB DDR-II RAM, 80GB
hard disk and a DVD burner all for the price of $ 1499 including delivery, it
would probably send your jaw dropping. Perhaps the letdown of this unit is its
thickness and weight.

‘Desktop-replacement’ is written all over the Inspiron 9400. Seemed to be
built for gamers, it has a 17″ WXGA+ screen and a very powerful nVIDIA GeForce
GO 7800 256MB graphics sub-system. The base price is $ 2299 including delivery,
but probably after adding more memory and changing to a faster processor, we
would be seeing a figure closer to $ 3000. Dell laptops come with 1 year
CompleteCover support with Asia Pacific regional coverage.
