Kabam has partnered with Warner Bros. to deliver two web and mobile games based on the upcoming The Hobbit movie trilogy.

The developer will launch the two multiplayer strategy games this Autumn, just in time for the release of the first Hobbit movie, An Unexpected Journey, which comes out on 14 December.

The first game is The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth and will be available on mobile devices. The game will focus on building kingdoms within Middle-earth, offering multiplayer experiences with and against other players, making it similar to other MMORTS titles, albeit with the popular Tolkien mythos.

The second game is The Hobbit: Armies of the Third Age and will be available for web browsers. This will focus on strategic combat of armies and will let players control major heroes from the story, including Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey. A beta begins today, which gamers can sign up to here.

“The Hobbit films are among the most anticipated entertainment launches of all time,” said Kevin Chou, CEO of Kabam. “Kabam’s unique ability to blend the art of game design and the science of free-to-play distribution makes us a natural fit to partner with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to deliver thrilling games via the Web and mobile devices for The Hobbit film fans around the world.”

Both games will be free-to-play, which means anyone can get stuck in, but certain features or goodies may need to be purchased for a full gameplay experience.
