KDDI unveils Windows Phone 7 "Mango"-powered smartphone in Japan

Reported by on Wednesday, July 27 2011 4:03 pm

KDDI has announced the availability of its new Windows Phone 7 "Mango"-powered smartphone, the IS12T, in Japan. According to the Japanese operator, the new IS12T smartphone is produced by Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications and will boast various features such as integration with Windows Live and various other social networking services, as well as sport a body that is said be compact, waterproof and dustproof all at once.

Well, that was fast. Apparently, in less than 48 hours after Microsoft has announced that the "Mango" update for its Windows Phone 7 operating system has been granted RTM status, and is now in the midst of being handed over to manufacturers all over the world for use in their products, out comes Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications with what is probably the first Windows Phone "Mango" smartphone for Japan, in the form of the IS12T.

According to a report published by Japanese IT website ITmedia, the Windows Phone IS12T smartphone will feature a 3.7-inch touchscreen LCD TFT display which boasts support for WVGA resolutions (800 x 480 pixels), while sporting a maximum height of 57mm. In addition, ITmedia claims that the IS12T smartphone processing power will be supplied by Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8655 system-on-a-chip (SoC) clocked at 1GHz, while storage is provided by 32GB of internal flash memory. That being said, the report also claims that the Windows Phone will not ship with a memory card reader, so users are limited to the 32GB of internal flash memory for all their storage needs.

Topping off the IS12T's package is the inclusion of a rear-facing camera that has been reported to be capable of capturing still images at the extremely high resolution of 13-megapixels, along with support for wireless connectivity via WiMAX, WiFi (802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1, and a battery which boasts the capability to provide up to 280 hours (standby) of uptime on a single charge, or 400 minutes of talk time.

Last but definitely not least, ITmedia has claimed that the new IS12T sports a body which has been reportedly designed to be both compact, waterproof and dustproof all at once, a fact which was backed up by what appears to be a photograph of the IS12T being taken for a dunk in a huge tank of water.
