Metal Gear Solid 4 pushed the hardware limitations of the PS3 upon release with it’s stunning graphics, long cutscenes and hours of recorded dialogue. Hideo Kojima says he’s aiming for the same kind of commitment and effort for the next-gen versions of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. This even includes interacting with tablet devices to enhance your gaming experience, hoping gamers can “enjoy the game from anywhere at any time.”
New trailers for the game were shown at E3 earlier this week and announced for release on current gen consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. The game will also be ported to next-gen consoles, which left people wondering if it would just be a direct port or would there be tech upgrades to the game engine. The game already shows off an incredibly vast world, changing weather patterns and a brand new graphics engine. Kojima has said the next-gen version will look a lot better than the footage that was shown this week during E3.
Kojima said, “For this project we were using the PC to build the Fox Engine to create our game. We’re using the current-generation as a [guideline].” Kojima noted that while they were developing for current systems, next-gen consoles were announced and they had to scramble to see if it was feasible to work on both. “We’re really trying to reach the peak of the current generation right now — 360, PS3 — and then see how much we can take it up for the next-generation.” Kojima also said that the new versions of Metal Gear Solid 5 will look “something better than [what] we have shown today,” and will be aiming for a 60 frames per second refresh rate and a higher resolution for the next-gen releases.
