Konami to showcase Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and PES 2014 at Gamescom

Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2

Konami’s presence at this year’s Gamescom will be quite strong, as the publisher has planned to showcase two strong titles in its current lineup: both Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2014 will be playable at the event.

As Europe’s most prestigious gaming event, Gamescom will be held in Cologne, Germany from August 21-25. Konami is preparing its sizable 500-square-meter floor space to feature playable demos of both games, allowing gamers all over the world the chance to go hands-on and experience the new offerings in both of the critically acclaimed franchises.

Additionally Konami will debut the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Ultimate Edition for PC at the event, giving attendees the chance to try it out for the first time.

As the direct sequel in MercurySteam’s definitive Lords of Shadow series, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 looks to be one of the major releases of the year with its innovative open-world mechanics and an impressively original story arc which tells the story of Dracula and takes players from the classic medieval fantasy era and into modern times.

The game is a mix of old and new, with plenty of nostalgic moments that keeps true to its fanbase while incorporating its own distinct stylish flair and intuitive game mechanics.

Along with this recent news, the developers at MercurySteam have revealed that Lords of Shadow 2 will be their last game in the series:

“We always felt it was our responsibility now but it wouldn’t be ours forever,” Cox said. “Let’s do what we’re going to do, tell our story and move on.

“So we’ve told Japan headquarters that this is the last one for us … there’s nothing worse than when somebody’s got something to say, and when they’ve said it, they just keep talking.”

This might be disappointing news for gamers who enjoy MercurySteam’s take on the definitive saga, it will be interesting to see who takes up the honor of filling out the franchise to even greater heights.

PES 2014

With PES 2014 the devs at PES Productions have pushed the bar even higher to deliver a whole new era in sports gaming. From the overhauled system and redesigned game mechanics to the pristine and impeccable visuals and graphics from the all-new Fox Engine, PES 2014 is shaping up to be one of the most impressive-looking sports titles of this year.

The game itself will feature dynamic additions like TrueBall Tech, which takes a plethora of factors–including the dynamic physics associated with the ball and how players pass it and how it moves on the field–to deliver the most realistic soccer experience to date.

Konami’s General Manager Martin Schneider had the following to say about the publisher’s Gamescom lineup:

“KONAMI enters gamescom at a very exciting time in its long history,” Martin began.

“Following the successful relocation, we enter gamescom with a trio of extremely strong titles – and a chance for visitors to Cologne to go hands-on with the all-new PES 2014, the absolutely breath-taking Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, and the PC debut of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition.

“Gamescom is an essential part of the European gaming calendar, and we look forward to showing our hand and unveiling key product details as we move towards launch.”

Gamers will be able to go hands-on with Konami’s lineup at 7.1. booth B030 on the Gamescom show floor.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is slated for a release in Q4 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, whereas PES 2014 is scheduled to release in Q3 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and PS Vita.
