Latest Diablo III patch stops players from earning XP

Blizzard's latest patch for its hack-and-slash role-playing game Diablo III has fixed several bugs, but introduced a major new one that stops players from earning experience points (XP).

In what is seemingly a never-ending series of glitches and hiccups for the gaming company, Patch 1.0.3 stops players from receiving XP and also caps their characters at level 13, an extremely low level in the 60 levels of play available.

Reports suggest that only those who bought a digital copy of the game are affected by the bug. Years ago that might have been a small number, but many people buy digital downloads today, so the player base affected is likely huge.

Despite the monumentally game-breaking nature of this bug, there appears to be a simple fix. All users have to do is change their password and the XP will start rolling in again, according to player reports.

The problem is that many players may not know about this fix and some may go through an entire dungeon before they realise they are not earning XP, with no compensation for such wasted time. For some it may be the last straw in a series of disasters since the game launched, while for others it is yet another amusing reminder that game patches often break more than they fix.
