Lenovo has just unveiled its new ThinkStation E31 series workstation which comes in two flavours; a more expandable conventional sized tower and a compact SFF based one.

Both of these budget workstation offerings can be purchased with up to 32GB of RAM, either an Intel Xeon E3-1200 CPU or one of Intel's Ivy Bridge processors. The machines also pack nine USB ports, four of which are USB 3.0, but that's where the consistencies between the two start to diminish.

The full tower version can house up to three HDDs; ie. 9TB, while the SFF has space for only two drives, ie. 6TB. With that said, Lenovo also provides the option to jump over to solid state drives if one is more speed inclined.

Both machines use Intel's HD P4000 graphics solution in base trim, but the options differ in terms of discrete alternatives between the large and small machines with the former offering up to an NVIDIA Quadro Q4000 and the latter a Quadro Q600.
