Lenovo launches Thinkpad S531 UltraBook without Haswell inside
Lenovo has announced the sleek and elegant Thinkpad S531 Ultrabook at the Xander Zhou fashion show at London Fashion Week.
The laptop features an Ivy Bridge processor, 10 GB RAM (2GB soldered + 8GB slot), 500 GB storage, a 15.6-inch Antiglare Full HD display and USB 3.0 connectivity for improved data transfer. According to the manufacturer, the laptop can provide users with the battery time of up to 9 hours. The Ultrabook also features Onelink technology which connects the notebook to the Thinkpad OneLink dock via a power cable. Optimized for Windows 8, the notebook offers users with improved performance, almost 15 percent greater than the previous versions of the laptop.
The Ultrabook also features a six-row backlit keyboard and a large, responsive trackpad that is optimized for Windows 8 gestures and shortcuts.
Impressive as the Ultrabook might be, it gets a few points knocked off because there is no Intel Haswell chip inside. The company included the 3rd generation of processors – Ivy Bridge – which may seem a little outdated compared to the latest Haswell processor. This may also be the turning point in terms of sale as users prefer to go for the latest technology.
Lenovo ThinkPad S531 is available in the UK and can be purchased from Lenovo’s website for £575 (approx $900). There is no announcement regarding availability in the US and other parts of the world.
