Lenovo’s latest phablet features high-end hardware and comes with dual-SIM functionality.
The Vibe Z is Lenovo’s latest phablet offering, and is loaded with high-end hardware. The device was officially announced by Lenovo back in October, and will be available for pre-order in China soon. The Vibe Z features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a full-HD resolution of 1980 x 1050 pixels. The pixel density on the device is 400 ppi.
Under the hood, the Vibe Z features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 mobile SoC, which comes with a 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU. The device features 2 GB RAM, and there has been no word on internal storage, although it is likely the device will either have 16 or 32 GB of internal memory on-board. The device has dual-SIM functionality, with custom configurations for the Chinese carriers. The Vibe Z does have LTE connectivity, but does not include the bands for China’s TD-LTE network (LTE Band 40).
The Vibe Z also comes with a Sony IMX135 1/3.06 Exmor-RS camera sensor which features a resolution of 13MP. The f/1.8 lens allows for zero shutter lag, and the device comes with a BSI sensor that should allow you to take better images and videos in low-light conditions. Lenovo has mentioned that on the software side of things, it is including new image processing algorithms for faster processing of images. The 5MP front camera also features a wide-angle lens.
Lenovo is launching a new set of covers for the Vibe Z, and these are similar to what Samsung offers with the S View Covers and LG with the Quick Window cases. You will be able to view incoming notifications, and there is a section that allows you to answer or ignore calls without having to remove the cover. Lenovo claims that eh device will have a standby time of 278 hours. Battery endurance has been a trend with Lenovo products lately, with the Yoga tablets also boasting strong battery lives.
The Vibe Z runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Lenovo’s custom UI, called Vibe ROM. There has been no word on how much the device will cost yet, but it should be in the general vicinity of $600.
