Lenovo has launched the Lenovo Enterprise App Shop, a mobile app store for businesses that use Android-based tablet computers.

Anyone running a device with Android version 3.1 or higher will be able to access Lenovo's new app store, which works similarly to the Apple App Store or Android Market, but offers a range of business-orientated software and the ability for IT managers to control app purchases, licences, distribution and management.

The Shop features a variety of management services, such as a vetted catalogue of enterprise apps free of malware or offensive content, custom management and corporate approval process, private corporate app publishing, volume purchase pricing for discounts, and easy enabling and disabling of apps, giving businesses considerable control over the apps employed by their staff, while not gaining direct control over the devices themselves.

"With the influx of personal and mobile devices in the workplace, it’s critical for companies to manage the proprietary and third-party applications their employees are using,” said Mark Cohen, VP of Ecosystem and Monetization at Lenovo. “We created an app shop designed specifically for the enterprise featuring LDAP integration and cross Android platform support to facilitate IT management while giving users the apps they’re demanding to boost productivity.”

The Lenovo Enterprise App Shop is available immediately throughout the world, except China.
