Though the world’s first couple of smartphones to sport curved displays didn’t quite end up as flexible as we imagined all this time, the Samsung vs. LG duel is shaping up to be quite heated and interesting to the outside viewer.

On one hand, Samsung’s Galaxy Round technically became official first and it’s also the one with the far more impressive screen resolution (1,080 vs. 720p). Yet LG seems to have a couple of tricks up its sleeve as well, courtesy of extra screen real estate, a much bigger battery and, most of all, the promise of rolling out the G Flex not only in Korea, but in a few other markets too.

What other markets? No idea, but the US is probably out of the question. As for the rest of the world, chances are we’ll be hearing specifics on November 5, when LG is to hold a special press event in Seoul, Korea.

This will in fact be the first opportunity for LG to showcase the curvaceous 6-incher in something other than boring press shots, as the initial formal announcement from a few days ago came and went with no real glitz or glamour.

According to credible sources out of Korea, following the November 5 event LG will be putting the G Flex up for grabs nationwide sometime around the 15th. Then at some point the horizontally curved device will start selling outside of the country, with all the signs pointing to a vague “in time for Christmas” ETA.

Now, in case you’ve been living under a (remote) rock, the G Flex is essentially a G2 with an entirely different panel (for good and worse), innovative “self-healing” features that should be further detailed next week, 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2 GB RAM, 13 MP rear-facing camera, 3,500 mAh battery and pre-loaded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Sounds like a winner to us, but we should probably hold off for pricing. After all, if it’s to cost more than 1,000 bucks, what’s the point? Besides, does anyone feel like the curve adds any kind of real-life value in the equation? Exactly.
