LG and Qualcomm have jointly announced their collaboration on future Optimus G series Smartphones. You guessed it right, the Optimus G2 is coming, and will be powered by the Snapdragon 800 (aka beast) SoC.

LG and Qualcomm jointly announced on Wednesday that the Korean company will use the chip makers’ latest and greatest Snapdragon 800 SoC in its future Optimus G series Smartphones. This could only mean one thing, the Optimus G2 is coming, and that it’ll be a true beast.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800, demoed yesterday, showed strong improvements in CPU benchmarks (perhaps largely due to increased core clock speeds) and almost 2x the GPU performance in many GPU-centric benchmarks. The Krait 400 cores are one thing, but the Adreno 330 GPU is another beast altogether. The SoC also supports features such as 4K decoding and capture, always-on voice recognition feature and much more.

“With a powerful combination of LG’s core Smartphone technologies and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, we are taking a significant step forward in the mobile experience. The result of this collaboration will in many ways be the industry’s best smartphone by which all other devices will be measured.”-Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO, LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

“We are pleased with continued collaboration with LG. Fully tailored and tightly integrated with the entire next G series platform, the new, best-in-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor will help deliver blazing fast web browsing, eye-popping graphics, seamless connectivity as well as an unmatched multimedia experience.”-Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., co-president, Qualcomm mobile and computing

We eagerly await the follow-up to the beautifully built Optimus G, the Optimus G2 (might end up with a different name), to hit the markets. By our estimates, it should happen anytime in the next 3 months.
