LG LG plans to launch 8.9 inch Android tablet early next year

This year is not just the year of Google’s Android OS, but also the year of Tablet devices. With manufacturers like Samsung, Dell, BlackBerry, Viewsonic and even Creative hopping on to the Android tablet bandwagon, it seems weird that LG hasn’t announced one yet. Well, according to sources, the Korean manufacturer is intending to release theirs in early 2011.

LG may be the first manufacturer to launch the Optimus 7, a Windows Phone 7, but it is lagging way behind in the race of Android tablets, especially when others including Samsung, BlackBerry, Dell and Creative have announced theirs.

According to Reuters, the Korean company plans to launch a 8.9-inch tablet that runs on the new Android 3.0 operating system (codenamed Honeycomb) early next year 2011. It seems a little weird that LG decides to make a tablet that is of a different size compared to the conventional 5-inch, 7-inch and 10-inch ones on the market today.

There has been a lot of debate as to whether Android 2.2 (Froyo) should be incorporated to tablet devices, but LG has chosen not to adopt it on their upcoming device, but Android 3.0 instead.
