It's not easy being top dog in the smartphone market these days, as shortly after Samsung announced the Galaxy S III, its Korean counterpart LG revealed its Optimus LTE2 handset. The company held back on some key specs, but the Optimus LTE2 looks set to be another interesting device that will go head to head in the 720p screen resolution market.

LG didn't reveal the processor in the Optimus LTE2, so it's unclear as to what kind of performance we can expect. However, this is as far as we're aware the first phone to feature 2GB of RAM and we doubt LG would pair this up with a mediocre processor. LG is of course claiming that this will allow you to run more apps simultaneously, but this is generally not an issue on devices with 1GB of RAM.

The actual screen size wasn't revealed either, but the device looks huge, however LG did reveal that it's a TrueHD IPS screen. That said, this isn't a 1080p screen, but it's expected to be 720p and LG is taking aim at Samsung's pen-tile Super AMOLED displays as this screen offers a full RGB matrix. LG also claims a 40 percent battery life improvement compared to the Optimus LTE, although this might in part be thanks to the 2,150mAh battery pack.

The Optimus LTE2 also supports wireless charging via a dock, although it's not clear if this comes with the handset or if it's an optional accessory. The camera is also said to come with some kind of smart features and it appears to offer voice notes to go with the pictures. Finally the Optimus LTE2 will come with Android 4.0.x and it should arrive in Korea in the next couple of weeks and it'll be available on at least three Korean networks.
