Logitech has announced the launch of its TV Cam HD today for public consumptions.  The TV Cam HD is used for Skype video conferencing via a connection to an HDTV with HDMI.

The TV Cam HD is capable of 720p HD videos, Wi-Fi g/n or Ethernet connectivity, digital zoon/pan, and has Carl Zeiss optics and noise cancellation microphones.

The only real benefit to this device is that users won’t need a computer to get things going.  The TV Cam HD connects directly to an HDTV via HDMI, and has Skype built-in.  Logitech is retailing the device for USD $199.99, and is currently only available through pre-orders.

That’s quite a hefty price tag on a device that’s basically a webcam with Skype built-in.  If you want to ditch the clunky-ness of a PC, then the TV Cam HD may be a decent choice for video calls with friends and family.
