Several major characters have been confirmed for a return in the Extended Cut of Mass Effect 3, BioWare's attempt to appease fans who were angry at the game's disappointing ending.

The confirmations came in a roundabout way from the actors who voice the characters. Admiral Steven Hackett, EDI and Kaidan Alenko will be returning.

Lance Henriksen, who voices Hackett, told G4 that he finished another recording session with BioWare, explaining that it was because of “a problem with the abruptness of the ending.” Tricia Helfer, who voices EDI, and Raphael Sbarge, who voices Alenko, also confirmed recent returns to the studio.

The Extended Cut was announced in April after extensive criticism of the game's ending, which did not take into account the choices or actions made during the course of gameplay. This was particularly an issue given that Mass Effect 3 was advertised as letting players affect the outcome of the game. The problem became so bad that even the Better Business Bureau lambasted BioWare for false advertising.

In fairness to the studio, however, it has taken this feedback on board and will release the new downloadable content for free in the Summer. This update will feature a number of personalised endings that will reflect the choices made in the game, which should go a long way towards making up for the original blunder.
