Information on Web-based Malware Infections by Dasient

Cnet has reported that there is an alarming rise in the number of websites (intentionally or accidentally) hosting malicious software. Dasient, founded by former Googlers, has claimed that more than 640,000 websites and around 5.8 million pages are infected with malware, with figures for infected pages almost twice of what Microsoft had projected in an earlier report.

Most of these malware infections were via JavaScript and iFrames “injected” into legitimate sites, clearly showing a rising trend of attackers targeting browsers and Web applications “with SQL injections, cross-site scripting and other attacks that can lead to drive-by downloads”. Dasient will be providing and sharing a top 10 weekly list of web-based malware attacks as well as publishing information regarding new infections and trend information via a Twitter feed.
