Micromax launches the Canvas Turbo A250
Micromax is looking to regain lost momentum by launching its fastest device yet.
Micromax is the biggest Indian Android handset manufacturer, and has seen a strong year in terms of sales and revenues. Devices like the Canvas HD revolutionized the budget handset market in India, and have ensured that other manufacturers started including better hardware in devices that are sold in this category.
While Micromax has not seen much success with the successor to the Canvas HD, the Canvas 4, it is looking to rectify that with the Canvas Turbo. The Canvas Turbo is the manufacturer’s first full-HD device, and comes with a 5-inch screen that allows for wide viewing angles and readability under sunlight. The device is also the first Micromax device and the first in this category to be constructed of anodised aluminium, and is quite thin at 8.6 mm.
Under the hood, the device features a MediaTek MT6589T 1.5 Ghz quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, 13MP camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 5MP offering at the front of the device. Both cameras can shoot full-HD videos.
The Canvas Turbo has 3G connectivity and comes loaded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Micromax is taking a page out of Samsung’s book and introducing smart gestures with the device. For instance, you will be able to unlock the device by waving your hand over the proximity sensor, and answer calls automatically by placing the device close to your ear. A feature that is of the gimmicky variety if Blow To Unlock, that lets you blow on the screen to unlock the device.
A few other features are similarly of no discernible use, like the multi-video mode which lets you watch two videos simultaneously. When it comes to taking images, Micromax has included a feature called camerazzi that lets you take 360 degree panorama shots. Also added is the ability to delete unwanted elements from the images.
Micromax is selling the Canvas Turbo for just $325 (Rs. 19990). The Indian vendor is signaling its intentions to take a more significant chunk of market share away from international manufacturers, and as such has announced earlier this month that it has recruited Hugh Jackman as its brand ambassador.
