Microsoft accidentally hints at high-res Surface and more
The Surface RT and Pro haven’t lit the world on fire like Microsoft would have hoped but if this leak is any indication it seems like they’re ready to give it another push sometime in the future. Hopefully the near future.
There were rumors of new Surface announcements possibly coming during Microsoft’s BUILD event this week but it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any at all. However, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t cooking up something new for a later date. The Verge has posted an image that was captured during one of the BUILD sessions where they were discussing sharing between multiple screen sizes.
If you didn’t spot it right away, those 10.6″ screen sizes with high resolutions sure look interesting. They go from 1024 x 768, to 1366 x 768, to 1920 x 1080, to 2560 x 1440. As you might know by now, the Surface Pro already uses the second last resolution you see there, but nothing uses the one after it. With 10.6″ being a relatively distinct screen size used by Microsoft and not much else it is reasonable to believe that these are indeed for possible Surface models.
Other resolutions listed could be for any small Windows 8 tablets. High resolution 7″ or 7.5″ tablets are definitely an interesting proposition, especially the ones listed at 4:3 aspect ratio which is something not often used outside of the iPad world. We’ll definitely have to wait and see what shakes out but hopefully Microsoft just accidentally (or purposefully) leaked their future plans because it’s looking good.
