It is not official but according to Computerworld, Microsoft could drop the price of Windows 7 to around $100 when it announces retail prices later this month, based on calculations for an earlier Vista cost-cutting move.

Following Vista, each version of Windows 7 will be a superset of the one immediately lower on the price/feature ladder.

Windows 7 is slated to retail this year and is expected to succeed Vista, which had been plagued by critics and community of its share of problems.
