Microsoft has claimed that both its Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets are ‘close to selling out’, via its Microsoft Developer Twitter feed.

In a recent tweet, Microsoft asserted that both models of the most recent generation of its flagship tablet series – the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 – are nearly completely sold out, although the company opted not to divulge into any detail around the exact numbers of device sales.

After the truly impressive failure of the original Surface tablet and write-off of nearly $1 billion in unshifted stock, you’d be forgiven for taking this comment with a pinch of salt. However, the devices in the latest refresh do offer much beefier set-ups, so it’s quite possible that Microsoft has successfully marketed its new products to a more savvy, professional customer, which could explain a higher demand.

Not to worry, though, as so far it seems that only pre-orders of the more expensive models have been affected by any inflated demand. Most configurations are still available to pre-order on the Surface website at the time of writing, but if Microsoft’s claim is at all true, they might not be available for long.
