Microsoft will be investigating data usage by Windows Phone 7 devices after internet forums have been flooded with complaints about unidentified data use charges.
Microsoft has told BBC News that it is investigating why some Windows Phone 7 are sending and receiving “phantom data”.
Some users reported that their idle data usage clocked in at 3-5 Mb per hour, which is high considering that the average email and social networking services user uses only 1-2Gb of data monthly.
Sales figures released late december, showed that Windows phone 7 is trailing behind its competitors, selling 1.5 million units six weeks after release. In comparison, the iPhone 4 moved 3 million units in just three weeks.
The first of several updates to Windows Phone 7 will be available in the coming weeks.
