The Wrap cited an anonymous insider who said that Microsoft would unveil its own tablet at the event, shedding light on what has until know been a mysterious date that the company is secretly touting to key media around the world.
 
We previously reported that Microsoft has sent out limited invites to a select number of news outlets, suggesting there will be a “major Microsoft announcement” and that “you will not want to miss it.” A variety of possibilities were on the table, but it seems that the Redmond, Washington-based company is likely to unveil its first proper attempt at stealing market share from Apple's iPad.

Windows 8, with its Metro tablet theme, is widely considered a viable competitor to both Apple's iOS and Google's Android, with its dual nature as a desktop OS and a mobile OS a potential selling point for many users. Windows Phone 7 failed to take off, but Windows 8 shows a lot of promise, and it seems that Microsoft is willing to back it up with its own self-manufactured tablet.
