Microsoft sent out invitations for a media event in New York City on September 23rd, during which it will introduce the Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2.
The next-generation Surface tablets will be called the Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2. Recent rumors suggested that Microsoft is considering launching a mini variant of the Surface tablet that will feature a 7-inch screen, however, internal sources have confirmed that this mini version will not be showcased on September 23rd.
Both the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 will feature a two-stage adjustable kickstand, and will come with better battery life. Its hardware is also set for a refresh, as the Surface Pro 2 will likely feature a Haswell processor, while the Surface 2 will feature Tegra 4 from Nvidia along with a full-HD screen. Rumors indicate that a version of the Surface Pro 2 will come with 8 GB of RAM on board. The Surface 2 tablet will come with Windows RT 8.1 while the Surface Pro 2 will feature a full-fledged version of Windows 8.1.
Microsoft is also set to launch new accessories for the tablets, like the Power Cover accessory which boosts battery life thanks to a built-in battery in the keyboard cover. There is also a new docking station accessory that Microsoft will unveil along with the tablets.
