Given how bad Windows 8-powered tablets are doing sales-wise and how little of an impact they’ve made in a market dominated by Apple, you’d think Microsoft would have more important things to do than try to give the (false) impression their slates are better than the iPads.
But everybody knows silly comparisons between apples and… insert rotten fruit of your choice here is what really drives sales forward in the technology world. Not developing a rich ecosystem with solid apps that people can really use. Or actually launch a gadget with a strong bang for buck factor for a change.
Oh, well, all things considered, at least Microsoft has a sense of humor when going for Apple’s jugular. Unlike Samsung, whose latest anti-iPhone ad is beyond ridiculous. Plus, using baseball metaphors to make a point is always smart when you’re mostly targeting an American audience.
So what is Microsoft trying to say in its fourth anti-Apple commercial? In a nutshell, that iPads can’t simultaneously run two apps, while Windows 8 slates breeze through multitasking. Which would be a valid point… if it were true. But it’s not. Or not really.
In reality, there are a number of ways you can multitask on an iPad. And yeah, getting the hang of multi-touch gestures can take a while, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Anyways, let’s not overanalyze an ad that, again, is pretty amusing… erm, considering, and that ultimately will never, ever, ever put a dent in iPad sales.
