According to game developer Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, the Xbox 360 version of the block-building superstar game Minecraft is the fastest selling retail console game in the US.

Minecraft Xbox 360 edition sales

We all know the story of ‘Notch’, the indie developer who shot to fame and became rich overnight, so much so that I had to forcefully stop myself from emailing him asking for donations to buy my next phone (…*snaps out of dreamy state). Minecraft is a game that needs no introduction. One of the most popular (if not the most popular) game title to come out of an indie development house (that had only 1 developer, Markus Persson), a special version of the game tailored for the Xbox 360 was released earlier this year, which according to ‘Notch’ was the best-selling Xbox 360 game in its launch window.

Notch excitedly tweets that Minecraft is the fastest selling retail console game in the US.

Here’s the one:

With the XLBA version of Minecraft (launched back in March) crossing a thrilling 6 million in sales, the game has logged in a cumulative of 1 billion hours of gameplay by users across the globe (I know I know, you’re thinking how 1 billion hours could have been used to save the planet or something else).

The good news keeps getting better, a special Xbox One edition of Minecraft is headed for the next-generation console as a release day title. We’re assuming Kinect 2.0 powered controls to be enabled in the new title (no brainer really), but if you go through the tweets made by ‘Notch’, the guy isn’t overly fond of the camera staring at him all the time.
