Think of Scrolls as Yu-Gi-Oh meets Magic: The gathering.  You play the game by defeating your opponent’s “idols” with support summoning such as creatures, spells, enchantments, structures and siege weapons.  How you win a card battle not only depends on your skills but also the cards in your deck, thus, building a strong deck will take some.

Furthermore, the rarer card the stronger or more useful it is to your scrolls or card deck.  The Mojang team is planning on moving to beta, and players can go ahead and purchase the game even though it’s still in beta.  Players who are interested in buying the beta release will be buying a “half finished product at a reduced price.”  Mojang claims that selling their product at a reduced price during beta will help them “shape the game into a successful product with [user given] feedback.”
