More details about Amazon's tablet plans surface
Some time back, Amazon was reported to be planning to release its own Kindle-branded tablet that will supposedly go head to head with the likes of Apple's iPad. Well, more information about that elusive tablet has been revealed, and from the looks of it, it seems that Amazon is going to be a very good friend to a bunch of Taiwanese component manufacturers come Q3 this year.
Amazon was reported to be planning to release its own 9-inch Kindle-branded tablet that would supposedly be pitted against the iPad. Well, the latest informationwe have received suggested that the Kindle tablet is indeed a go for a Q3 launch this year, while more interesting details about the tablet has also been unearthed as we move closer to the alleged release date.
According to a report published by DIGITIMES, Amazon will be shipping not one, but two tablets in the third quarter of 2011. The first tablet, which will sport a 10-inch display, claims to be the company's flagship model and is expected to boast specifications similar to the ones in our previous stories. However, DIGITIMES has claimed that the tablet will not be the only device Amazon intends to launch for sale. The company will also be introducing a smaller tablet that features a 7-inch display with entry-level specifications alongside the flagship model, ostensibly for users who are on a tight budget.
In addition, DIGITIMES has also claimed that Amazon will be relying almost exclusively on Taiwanese manufacturers for supplies of the components it needs to assemble its own tablet, as shown in the table below:
