Intel chips power an overwhelming amount of PCs, but the company is lacking in the mobility department.  ARM-based processors are found in over 90 percent of current smartphones, and as for Intel, let’s just say hardly any smartphones are driven by Intel.

Reportedly, Intel has admitted that handheld mobility is the wave of the future, even if it's at the expense of PC.  However, even if Intel is a giant in the CPU business, it will take a lot of work for the California based chip maker to crack ARM’s firm grip on the mobile market.

The question now is whether or not Intel has what it takes to compete with the likes of the upcoming Cortex-A15 tech—expected to arrive late 2012/early 2013.

Intel’s Medfield mobile solution is said to be showing potential, but only a limited number of devices feature the technology thus far.  The Lava Xolo X900 is one such device, but benchmarks done by Anandtech.com reveal that the flagship device still falls short in terms of battery life*.
