Mozilla shows off insane web browser gaming potential with Epic Citadel demo

Mozilla really wants to bring console-like gaming experience to web browsers, and their effort is evident in this latest demo of the Unreal Engine 3 port operating in Firefox.

The demo features some short scenes of Epic Citadel, and, although the quality is still a ways off from matching that of other platforms, it’s pretty damn nice!  Developers ported the game to JavaScript, and most HTML 5-capable browsers will be able to run the demo without any plugins.

Mozilla is currently trying to woo game developers into testing out OdinMonkey (Firefox’s asm.js optimization module) and compile their C or C++ codes into JavaScript using Emscripten.  With enough backings and developer attention, we may one day be able to play extremely sophisticated games right from our browser.
