The festive season is now upon us, and like any good OEM, MSI has got a few announcements up its sleeves for customers. Up on the list are details of a new mini-ITX board which runs on the current “Pineview” Atom processors, as well as a new line of notebooks with enough computing power suited for the heavy users.

Sometimes, even an mATX board does not cut it when desktop real estate is extremely limited. And more often than not, people who use their PCs purely as a web-surfing machine for watching videos and checking their emails are not going to require the processing power of even a budget-level Pentium Dual Core processor.
At times like this, it should be clear that the mini-ITX form factor is probably the only solution which is best-suited for such needs. And MSI has got just the board for such users: the company has announced its new MSI IM-PV-C mini-ITX board which makes use of the latest “Pineview” Atom processors from Intel.

According to MSI, the new IM-PV-C mini-ITX board was designed to meet the needs of users who desire low power consumption while still offering support for high-resolution videos and decent 3D graphics quality.
MSI claims that the IM-PV-C will support the use of standard ATX power supply units, and will come with two SO-DIMM slots which support DDR3 memory at 800MHz. In addition, connectivity has not been compromised: the IM-PV-C sports three SATA2 ports, “5 COM ports, 8 USB 2.0 ports, and multiple video output (DVI, VGA and LVDS) for dual independent display. Networking is provided by one Intel 82574L GbE LAN and one Intel 82567V GbE LAN. Moreover, it features one compact flash slot, one PCI and one mini-PCIe slot for easy expansion”.

As usual, MSI had chosen to conveniently omit any information about pricing and availability of the IM-PV-C, so you might have to keep checking your favourite hardware shops on a regular basis in order to find out when they will arrive.
