MSI K8NSLI 78GTX MSI K8N SLi + 2 x 7800GTX Incompatibility Issue Investigated

Apparently, there have been some discussions in many online communities on
the MSI K8N SLi. Rumors had been
floating around, citing that this MSI board will not fit the latest top of the
line NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX on the 2nd PCIe x16 slot although the first slot was free
from any obstruction. It was said that the 2nd PCIe x16 slot for the second
7800GTX card to be plugged in for SLI has some tall capacitors blocking the
card’s fan power connector. Click on full article for the whole story.

All 7800 GTX cards share exactly the same reference PCB designs likewise for
the positioning of the card’s fan power connector. Due to this concern sounded
by various users, we took a MSI K8N SLi and a Leadtek PX7800 GTX and tried it on
the 2nd slot. Although it was an extremely tight fit, with slight nudging of the
fan connector against the capacitor, the card would still work with the fan
spinning. In fact, we had a
setup
with this board
and two pieces 7800 GTX in SLi mode and of course it worked,
and gave us pretty nice scores.
