Skylake will feature DDR4 but will continue to use PCIe 3.0.
VR-Zone has obtained new details on the processor that will succeed Broadwell.
SkyLake will first appear in the workstation and server oriented Greenlow platform, and will be under the Xeon line. The first Xeon processor in this line, the E3-1200, will use the LGA 1151 socket and will have four DIMM slots for support up to to 64GB of DDR4-2400MHz RAM.
In addition to a SkyLake CPU, the Greenlow platform will contain a Sunrise Point PCH and Jacksonville Phy. The Sunrise point PCH will contain the Intel C230 series chipset, and will support up to 20 lanes of PCIe 3.0 (not PCIe 4 surprisingly). It will also have eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports and up to three SATA Express ports.
Using the Jacksonville Phy means it will support the I219LM Intel Ethernet controller.
SkyLake is expected in 2015 and will be fabricated using Intel’s 14 nm process.
