Rumor has it that production woes might keep Mac Pro units out of brick and mortar stores for a few months.
First teased back in December 2012, Apple finally released the new Mac Pro late last month. The machine has been radically changed, it comes with an all new design and an very powerful hardware package. Apple technically met its promise of shipping new Mac Pro units in December 2013. but since then shipping estimates on the online store have slipped. Moreover, it is claimed that due to production issues, the new Mac Pro might not be available for in-store purchase until March or April 2014.
The units that have already reached stores are claimed to be demonstrator units. An Apple Australia business sales specialist has reportedly said that the company has directed them to tell customers to order new Mac Pros through the online store as that’s the only portal through which they can secure one at this point in time. This is also goes for those customers who have already placed an order of a unit in-store. Right now the online store displays a shipping estimate of February at the earliest.
Reports also suggest that the units that have already been shipped out to customers are standard configurations only, and that the company is yet to start shipping CTO models to customers.
