The father of Mega Man will helm a new game in the same vein as the blue bomber.
Mega Man fans have had precious little to cheer about in recent times. The blue bomber’s last outing was the old-school Mega Man 10, released back in 2010. Heck, Capcom even let the poor guy’s 25th anniversary slip quietly by. Fans have been clamoring for more robot hunting action, but no one seems to be listening.
Enter Keiji Inafune, the mastermind behind the series. Inafune answered the call of gamers everywhere with his Kickstarter project – Mighty No. 9. While not affiliated with Mega Man or Capcom in any official capacity, the new game bears more than a passing resemblance to the classic series.
Mighty No. 9 just recently made a bid for crowd-funding. It ended up reaching its goal of $900,000 dollars within the first 24 hours. At the time of this writing, the pledges have crossed the million dollar mark, and there are still 29 days to go. The initial plans call for a PC version, and stretch goals include more stages, a making-of documentary, and finally, console versions of the game.
As a long time Mega Man fan, I cannot wait to see this baby in action. A look through the kickstarter page is enough to make any fan of the blue bomber positively giddy with anticipation. Everything we’ve seen so far is dripping with that Mega Man touch. It only seems logical, since the original creator is the one steering this ship. Take a look for yourself over here.
