Nikon COOLPIX AW100

The Nikon COOLPIX AW100 is, according to the Japanese imaging company, its first rugged digital compact camera to be introduced to market. Boasting a BSI image sensor that is capable of capturing stills at the maximum resolution of 16 megapixels, the COOLPIX AW100 is reportedly robust enough to withstand water, shock and extreme temperatures making it suitable for use in highly hostile environments.

In addition, the COOLPIX AW100 digital compact camera will also feature a built-in GPS module which allows photographers to geo-tag their images and map a path to the location where the images were taken, in the event the photographer ever wants to revisit the scene.

Nikon COOLPIX P7100

The Nikon COOMPIX P7100 is a prosumer-grade compact digital camera which features a 1/1.7-inch CCD image sensor that is capable of capturing stills at the maximum resolution of 10.1 megapixels, while the built-in NIKKOR lens reportedly offers an optical zoom rage of up to 7.1x for the 35mm equivalent range of 28-200mm. In addition, the P7100 features two mode dials that allows photographers to exercise more control over their shooting preferences such as the PASM modes, thus making it similar to how one would handle a DSLR.

Lastly, Nikon has also claimed that the P7100 boasts a fast autofocus lock time of 0.16 seconds and a shutter lag of approximately 0.22 seconds, which is reportedly fast enough to allow photographers to capture high-speed shots reliably.

No prices for the AW100 and P7100 have been released by NIkon at this point of time, although Nikon has confirmed that both cameras will be released for retail in Japan come September 8 and September 22 respectively.
