Nikon Singapore announces new flagship D4 digital SLR camera

Nikon Singapore has announced their new flagship digital SLR camera, the Nikon D4. It boasts the latest FX-format CMOS image sensor and EXPEED 3 imaging-processing engine, which claim to offer superior performance and image quality with rich details. According to Nikon Singapore, the D4 will retail in February.

The Nikon D4, with the new FX-format CMOS image sensor and EXPEED 3 image-processing engine, has an effective pixel count of 16.2-million and supports a wide range of sensitivity from ISO 50 to ISO 204800. The AF system features 51 focus points with improved speed of initiating autofocus and detect and focus on subjects under low light conditions. The DSLR camera supports high-speed UDMA 7-compatible CompactFlash memory cards and next-generation, high-speed XQD memory cards. It also features Multi-area Mode full high definition (HD) D-movie recording function which can record full HD movies at 30 frames per second and with three movie recording formats to choose from. One of the unique features of the D4 is the built-in wired LAN connector, and it also supports high speed image transfer via wireless LAN (via optional Wireless Transmitter WT-5).

When you plug in the Nikon Wireless Transmitter WT-5, the D4 will create an ad-hoc wireless network that allows users to log on via their mobile devices including mobile phone, tablet or notebook PCs. Simply go to the device web browser and key in the IP address of the digital SLR camera and you can adjust the camera settings, take photos or videos and even view the thumbnails of the photos and videos that were taken. Note that only the first user who log in would have the access to the controls while subsequent users would only have view only privileges. And according to Nikon Singapore, it can support up to 255 users concurrently. There is no need to download or install any application as anyone can access via a web browser with Javascript support, although there are plans to introduce an app for the iPhone and even Android devices in the near future. The Nikon D4 will retail in Singapore, in February. Pricing details will be revealed nearer to launch date.

Nikon will also be exhibiting the D4 at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
