Nintendo has launched its latest Mario game, along with a new version of its popular handheld gaming system with a much larger screen.

New Super Mario Bros. 2, the sequel to the Mario title on the DS that sold over 10 million copies, is available today for $39.99. The game can be bought as a boxed copy or as a digital download.

Players will be tasked with collecting the traditional gold coins in the game, but this time they are much more plentiful, so the aim is to gather as many as possible. Mario can also get several new or returning power-ups, which can make him into a coin-making machine, a raccoon variant that can help with getting to harder to reach places, and the illustrious Gold Mario, who can shoot golden fireballs to turn almost anything into even more coins.
