In the new installment of Nintendo Direct, Satoru Iwata announces that the company has made a deal with Sega to create a new Sonic title exclusively to the Wii U and 3DS. Iwata also announced that the partnership will bring in a slew of classic Game Gear games onto the Nintendo e-Shop.

In a surprising move, Nintendo has recently signed a partnership with past gaming rival SEGA to develop a new exclusive Sonic title, and the company will also make classic Game Gear titles available on the 3DS' virtual e-Shop.

The deal was announced during today's Nintendo Direct video log from Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, who went into brief details about the upcoming Sonic release:

"The next game in the series, Sonic: Lost World is a brand new action adventure platforming game that will launch exclusively on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS."

Iwata didn't give any other details concerning the upcoming Sonic title, and we can expect more details "closer to the game's release".

Iwata also revealed that the partnership includes a variety of classic titles from Sega's original handheld Game Gear system, which will be introduced to the Nintendo 3DS e-Shop "soon".

The upcoming SEGA Game Gear titles include the following:

Crystal Warriors
Sonic Blast
Columns
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Defenders of Oasis
Tails Adventure
Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya
Sonic Drift 2
G-Loc Air Battle
Sonic Labyrinth
Vampire: Master of Darkness

Iwata also pointed out that there are already a few Game Gear titles on the Nintendo 3DS e-Shop like Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble, Shinobi and Dragon Crystal.

Along with the Sega offerings and announcements, the video goes on to showcase a myriad of other news including the inclusion of the classic Zelda duo The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons onto the 3DS e-Shop.

Both titles–which were originally released on the Game Boy Color–are expected to release on May 30th, and will allow gamers to experience the previously exclusive titles for the first time or all over again.

The update goes on to deliver even more news, hopping from the Nintendo 3DS to the Wii U lineup which includes a new enhanced version of Resident Evil: Revelations, a new Mario platformer that stars Luigi entitled Super Luigi Bros. Wii U (play as Luigi, blue toad, yellow toad and even Nabbit!), a release date for The Wonderful 101 (Sept. 15), expansive video footage of the extremely enamoring Pikmen 3 and more.
