Nintendo's 3D gaming not suitable for young gamers
Scheduled to launch in February next year, the Nintendo 3DS claims to offer 3D effects without the need for 3D glasses. However, the company warns parents that the upcoming handheld game console may not be suitable for young gamers.
Unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June this year, the Nintendo 3DS is set to launch in Japan, in February next year at 25,000 yen (or approximately US$307). It uses autostereoscopy that is capable of producing 3-D effects without the need for special glasses. However, such 3-D viewing is not suitable for young gamers, according to the company.
The 3-D viewing causes eye fatigue faster compared to standard screen viewing, and since the vision of young children are still in developmental stages, Nintendo recommends the 3DS not suitable for children aged under six-year old.
The company has also taken lots of measure such as including a slider on the 3DS to allow players to adjust the amount of 3-D they see in game. The 3-D effects can also be completely turned off and the handheld game console will include parental controls for keeping the 3-D turned off.
