On today's Nintendo Direct, Iwata shared gameplay and plot details for the upcoming Pikmin 3, as well as a gameplay video to go with it. The game is scheduled for release on August 4.
Pikmin 3 is a game that has seemed like it has been about to be released for a long time now, but we’ve reached the point where it actually seems like it’s about to come out. On today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo spoke more about the game when they revealed some new characters as well as the plot of the game.
Rather than Captain Olimar, the player will be controlling Alph, Charlie, and Brittany. Charlie is the captain and Brittany a scientist. They are all explorers from the planet Koppai, which is apparently suffering from a food shortage, so the trio has set out to find some fruit. They’re conducting this search on the planet inhabited by Pikmin of course.
Having three controllable characters allows the player to split into three teams, which should allow you to complete multiple objectives at the same time if you’re skilled enough. Iwata also mentioned that the game will be less punishing, by allowing you to repeat specific areas rather than being forced to repeat an entire level if you fail.
The game will be compatible with the gamepad as well as the Nunchuk and Wii Remote Plus. As expected it will also be possible to play off-tv using only the gamepad. Pikmin 3 will be released on August 4, so there is still a bit of a wait, but luckily Nintendo has shared a gameplay video below to help us out.
