While the focus of E3 for Nintendo was on its upcoming next-generation console, the Wii U, the company also has a slew of new games for the 3DS on the way.

Mario is back in New Super Mario Bros. 2, which continues the side-scrolling platform adventure with an even stronger focus on collecting coins than ever before. Players can also transform into Gold Mario and Raccoon Mario for some added gameplay variety, while the new Coin Rush mode offers some competitive multiplayer fun. The game will also feature a cooperative two-player mode over wireless connection. It will launch on 19 August.

For those who prefer their Mario a little more flat, there is Paper Mario: Sticker Star, which takes advantage of this series' ability to switch between 2D and 3D modes, with the added element of sticker collecting, which empower Mario with new abilities.

Luigi is not getting ignored either, with Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon providing some spook-filled adventure as Luigi explores several haunted mansions, stunning ghosts with his flashlight and solving puzzles.

Castlevania: Lord of Shadow – Mirror of Fate brings some action gaming to the 3DS, combining 3D graphics with traditional 2D gameplay. Alucard, the son of Dracula, returns for this title.

Kingdom Hearts 3D will launch on 31 July to celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary, enhancing the action role-playing gameplay with StreetPass features, AR Card compatibility and support for the Circle Pad Pro accessory.

The creative among us may enjoy Scribblenauts Unlimited, which follows the game's hero Maxwell as he explores an unbound world and solves puzzles, all with the help of almost any object the player can think of creating.

Disney fans will be treated to some platform adventure with Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, which brings the Disney world to life with the 3D capability of the handheld console. Inspired by Castle of Illusion, Micky Mouse will be able to use paint and paint thinner in new ways to affect the game world.

Other titles, including Transformers Prime, Rabbids Rumble, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, and Heroes of Ruin will also launch on the 3DS this year.
