Speculations that Apple will release an iPad Mini has been rampant, but aside from the “Mini” 7.85’’ portion of the rumors, we don’t know much else regarding what Apple may have in store for consumers.

However, some interesting new rumors have led many to believe that the iPad Mini will come with the display technology found in the iPhone 3GS.  The third gen iPad has a Retina display boasting a 2048 x 1536 resolution.  However, the Retina display may not be available on the iPad Mini as the price point is well below that of the lowest priced version of the third gen iPad.

For the smaller iPad Mini to be compatible with many current Apple iOS tablet apps, it has to have a screen resolution of 1024 x 768.  By applying the display technology that’s in the iPhone 3GS, Apple can produce a 7.85’’ tablet that will have the same resolution as the two previous gen iPads for a much cheaper price.

No iPad Mini with Retina display?  I suppose Apple can still compete with other 7’’ tablets without the need of a Retina display.
