The Amber update for Nokia Lumia devices has been ready to go for quite some time but hasn’t seen a release yet. That could change by the end of this month though, if rumors are to be believed.
We’ve known about Nokia’s planned Amber update for quite some time now, with newer Lumia phones like the Lumia 925 and 1020 having Amber out of the box, and now rumors are pointing at a late August / early September rollout of the update for all supported devices.
According to ePrice, priority will be given to the Lumia 920, which isn’t surprising considering its flagship status. The Lumia 520, 620, and 720 will be next in line, but not necessarily in that order. I would assume the Lumia 520 could be next after the 920, owing to its status as the best-selling and most popular Windows Phone device in the world, but we’ll have to wait and see how everything pans out.
The Amber update is an extension of the GDR2 update by Microsoft and includes some feature exclusive to Nokia devices, such as Glance Screen for indicating the time and notifications onscreen when phone is locked, Smart Camera app, flip-to-silence mode, call blocking, and newer versions of Nokia’s HERE Maps and Drive apps.
