Nokia partner up with Monster for co-branded headsets

The most surprising announcement at Nokia World 2011 wasn't one of Nokia's new handsets, instead it was the announcement that Nokia is teaming up with Monster to co-brand headsets for its phones. What makes this so interesting is that HTC bought into the Beats brand, which was originally a collaboration between Monster and Dr Dre and we're curious about what HTC will have to say about this partnership

There will be two headsets to start with, the Purity HD stereo headset and the Purity stereo headset; of course both models carry a "by Monster" tag at the end of the product names. The Purity HD is an over ear type headset with square-ish kind of flat ear pads. The headband is foldable and features a very similar design as the Beats audio headsets. The wire has a microphone and control buttons that are compatible with Nokia's new Lumia phones, although we expect that it should work with at least any other Windows Phone 7 device. The buttons allow for adjustment of volume and answering and ending calls. The Purity HD headset will come in black, white, cyan and fuchsia for what is likely to be a steep price tag.

The Purity headset on the other hand a standard in-ear affair, although it uses the kind of flat cables that once again Monster has used for the Beats audio products. This is a noise insulation set or headphones and it comes with five different sized ear buds to allow for a tight seal. The rest of the features are the same as for the Purity HD and we'll be seeing the Purity in the same choice of colours as well. No word on pricing here either, but expect them to be expensive.
