Nook Simple Touch eReaders receiving web browser and email client
Barnes & Noble will be providing an update on June 1st that will give their Simple Touch readers the ability to browse the web and check email.
If you’re an owner of the Nook Simple Touch or the Simple Touch with Glowlight, then here is some good news for you. Your entry level e-reader is about to receive more functionality through an over-the-air update that will bring the ability to browse the web on these devices. Nook’s entry level devices have never been able to browse the web or access email, so this marks a significant change.
Tech Crunch is reporting that the update is due to start rolling out on June 1st. They state that the update may have been created due to the positive reactions they’ve been receiving from the update that brought access to the Google Play Store to the Nook HD and HD+.
Barnes & Noble hasn’t been doing too well lately, but their recent decisions to make each of their devices more flexible are definitely steps in the right direction. The addition of an email client and web browser doesn’t make the entry level readers as capable as more expensive devices, but it certainly makes it a desirable option for those looking for a reader that also offers some more general functionality.
